Protective Measures

AthleticMeet.com offers features that empower you to protect your identity. You determine who sees your Profile and who can contact you. You have control over your personal contact information so that you decide if and when to share such information with other Members. And you choose which email lists you want to be subscribed to.

Display Options. You can check off which membership levels you will allow to view your Profile. Default is to allow all Public, General, and Club Members, but simply uncheck the box of a group you want to exclude. Of course, the more members you allow, the more responses and potential matches you will enjoy. But also keep in mind that Public Membership is free and open to everyone, but these members cannot contact you.

Blocking. You can further limit which members can view your Profile and/or contact you by blocking individual members or every member of an affiliated club. You can block and unblock any member or club at any time, and a list of your block members and clubs is provided on the Blocking page. We encourage you to notify us if a member is abusing the Website or violating the Terms of Use or Privacy Policy.

Email Preferences. AthleticMeet.com maintains several email lists that periodically send out emails about News (new features, new services, etc.), Hints (help on using the Website, interacting with other Members, etc.), Special Offers (discounts, special opportunities from Sponsors), and Clubs (info on clubs, events, leagues in your area). You can elect to subscribe to any of these email lists by checking the boxes on the Preferences page; by unchecking all of the boxes, you can avoid getting any emails from these lists. Please be aware that we maintain the ability and right to send you email outside of these elective lists to contact you with important information regarding your membership or the Website.

The recipient of Anonymous Email, including you if another Member emails you through our Website, will receive a notification email addressed to their email address on file in their regular email software (Outlook, Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo, gmail, etc.). Each Anonymous Email contains a link back to our Website to read the entire email; to respond, just click on that link and you will be taken to a page to compose an Anonymous Email back to the sender.

Safety Precautions for Meeting People Online
AthleticMeet.com wants to help you to meet people online with the same lifestyle and interests as you for dating, workout partners, roommates, correspondence, and other relationships. We hope you use the Website's power to search out others based on particular preferences and characteristics of your choosing and to open lines of communication with them.

As with any interactions with people new to you, common sense and judgment are your ally. Whether communicating online or choosing to meet in person, please take precautions to ensure your physical and emotional safety. AthleticMeet.com, of course, cannot verify information that other members post or communicate to you, and beware that anyone who can deceive, misrepresent, or impersonate in traditional dating and people meeting forums can also do so on the Internet.

AtheleticMeet.com hopes you meet the person of your dreams! To give yourself the best chance for positive experience, please consider the following safety tips for use in interacting with people you meet online:

  • Don't Rush In. You should evaluate all the information available to you in the person's Profile and attempt to have significant online interaction prior to revealing your contact information or communicating offline or meeting in person. A reasonable progression might to ping back and forth online, trade emails and photos, chat on the phone, and then meet in a public place. Most people meeting others online have the same concerns and questions, so most are understanding of your need to inquisitive and safe.
  • Protect your Identity. Your identity is not revealed to any member until you make the decision to do so in or by communicating with them. Take care before sending a direct email as that will reveal your home or work email address; consider taking out a separate, anonymous email account at Hotmail or similar provider. Be careful as to if and when you reveal your true identity, location, contact information, or the like. Providing a cell phone number is often time a safer disclosure than a work or home phone number; consider using the caller ID blocking services available on most local phone service to further protect your anonymity.
  • The Meeting. Once you get to the point where you are willing to meet someone in person, consider meeting them with a friend, telling a friend where you are going and who you are meeting, meeting in a well-lit, open public place during normal business hours.
  • Use Your Judgment. If something does not seem right, if the other person's story doesn't add up, if "red flags" pop up, or they seem to be lying or if it seems to good to be true, it might well be. Investigate some more before committing or revealing. Better safe than sorry.
  • No Pressure. Don't feel pressure and be wary of others who seek to exert pressure on you to meet or to reveal your personal contact info.

Even though it is fun and exciting to meet someone for the first time and to have emotions, please make every effort to be thoughtful before taking action and careful in your actions and interactions. With these precautions in mind and common sense as your guide, you are better prepared to comfortably find the person you are looking for! Have fun, be safe!
